The Knicks have hit a rough spot in their season again, but a win against the Wizards saw the Knicks team from earlier this season. The Knicks struggles is a result of their terrible defense and shooting. On Monday night they were able to finally able to get their points on the board along with great defense down the stretch. The most frustrating thing is that the Knicks turn on their great defensive abilities late in the game, but sometimes it is to late. The key for the Knicks is the play of Wilson Chandler. He is a great player, but I am not sure he knows it yet. He has to score 20 points every game in order for the Knicks to win. He has grown over the last year or so, but has lacked consistency. Every superstar has consistency and knows how to get his team the victory. This leads me to my next question, should the Knicks trade for Carmelo Anthony?
There is no question that the Knicks need Carmelo, but to lose many players in the process may be a bad decision. Everyone would love to have Carmelo on their team because of his great scoring abilities. In the Knicks case it would be a great addition to a good team. The best possible decision for the Knicks is to wait and hope that Carmelo will sign with them in the off-season. If the Knicks decide to get Carmelo during the season before the trade deadline they would lose many players. Players in the deal could possibly be: Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Landry Fields, Eddy Curry. Also, players like Anthony Randolph and Kelenna Azubuike could be bait for first round picks to send to Denver. This scenario is likely for the Knicks if they pursue the All-Star. The Knicks wouldn’t be a bad team, but to lose guys who have been so vital to the Knicks success this season is tough to see. As a fan and writer I feel that if the Knicks can hold out, then that could possibly be the best for them. The Knicks right now sit comfortably in the 6th seed and looks as if they can be in a nice spot to possibly advance in the playoffs.
The Knicks have to think hard a long about a trade for Anthony. My suggestion to the Knicks is that if they want Anthony they would want to get as many teams involved as possible to get the deal done. This way you could keep guys like Chandler and avoid losing out on a great talents. Carmelo will help when the Knicks play the top tier teams. The Knicks can and will be a great team this season with or without Anthony. They have the potential to be great, but it is up to them to get to the playoffs and win. My feeling is that the Knicks will pursue Anthony and get him. The Garden is already electric, but with Anthony it will be on fire. I have no idea what the Knicks will do this season, but I know they are headed in the right direction.
