The New Jersey Nets came to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Knicks. The Knicks were coming off an emotional win over the Orlando Magic on Monday night. They played tough defense and took over the game against the Magic. The Nets were coming off a blow out lost to the Houston Rockets. The Nets came out with something to prove as they took the Knicks to school on the boards. The Nets grabbed 51 rebounds to the Knicks 39. The Nets were in control and went up by as many as 16 points. The Knicks fought back coming out of the half and pulled within one point of taking a lead. They closed the 3rd quarter on a 19-6 run. Carmelo Anthony proved why he is a superstar player as he scored 39 points for the second consecutive game. He also grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 5 assists. He is playing at a high level right now and is proving that he wants to win. The Knicks always seem to fall behind early, but they always make a run. Tonight they were lucky to pull out the win. Chauncey Billups scored 33 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and dished out 6 assists. He played a great game and hit some big shots to keep the Knicks in position to pull out the win. His passing ability is amazing as he gets his teammates involved. Amar’e Stoudemire scored 23 points as he was hot early on. Amar’e only had one rebound which has to be a concern because the Knicks need to get the rebounds to avoid further damage by the other team. The Knicks big three scored a total of 95 points. If the Knicks can continue to score at this pace they will be a dangerous team to play in the playoffs. The Knicks only committed 5 turnovers and played and outstanding game avoiding turnovers.
The Nets were in position to win, but they couldn’t pull off the game. Brook Lopez played a hard fought game early on as he scored 26 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. He played a great game on the offensive end early in the game, but in the second half he only scored 4 points. He is a nice young big man. Deron Williams returned to the Nets starting lineup after missing the last six games with a wrist injury. He scored 22 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and dished out 8 assists. He was very important in this game because he was able to pick apart the Knicks defense and get his teammates involved. Anthony Morrow scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. He was able to hit threes from all over the floor as he hit four three-point field goals. He played a great game and proved why he is a sharpshooter. Kris Humphries played a hard game as he scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. He is playing really well right now and is racking up on the double-doubles.
The Knicks played a great game and deserved the win because they fought for the win. The Knicks will have three days to rest up before their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday night. The Knicks are looking to get a win against the Cavs and show everyone that they can beat sub .500 teams.
