The Atlantic Division rivals met in what would be an exciting game. The Knicks would make their first playoff appearance since the 2003-04 season. The Knicks led most of the game and had a 12 point lead at the half. Then in the second half the Celtics pulled within 2 points and in the fourth would gain the lead for the first time since the first half. Late in the game the Celtics would take the lead on a Ray Allen three point shot. The Knicks did have an opportunity to get a shot off, but missed out on their opportunity with a Carmelo Anthony miss. The star of the game had to be Ray Allen who had a great game in getting his points when the team needed him most. Allen scored 24 points and 6 rebounds. He started off slow, but came up big in the second half. Paul Pierce scored 18 points and hit some big shots as well. The Celtics had good fortune late in the game as the NBA officials missed some calls.
Amar’e Stoudemire had a great game and kept the Knicks atop with his 28 points and 11 rebounds. He had a great 4th quarter as he did great on both ends of the floor. His dominance in the 4th quarter was great. The Knicks could have gone back to him because of his hot shooting. Carmelo Anthony scored 15 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The Knicks will need him to score in order for them to win. He did play good defense, but he couldn’t find his shot.
The Knicks will have the opportunity to bounce back on Tuesday in Game 2 in Boston. The Knicks will hope that Chauncey Billups can play on Tuesday after getting injured late in the 4th quarter.
