The New York Mets took on the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. This was the first game of three in the series for the Mets. Chris Young faced off against Cole Hamels. The Mets had a great game out of Chris Young who went 5.1 innings, allowed 5 hits, gave up an earned run, while striking out 7 batters. He threw the ball very smart and did an excellent job in holding off the Phillies hitters. Cole Hamels was knocked out by the Mets hitters as he went 2.2 innings, allowed 7 hits, and gave up 6 runs. He struggled to get ahead of the Met hitters. The Mets offense looked great in the 3rd inning as they pounded Hamels and the Phillies defense. This was a huge win for the Mets early in the season and also because of the way they went about doing it. They have ensured that they will have at least one win in this series.
Game Notes:
- Chris Young got three hits on three plate appearances. He also knocked in a run in the 3rd inning on two plate appearances in the same inning.
- David Wright went 4 of 5 at the plate as he knocked in two RBI’s and scored two runs. He was locked in and if he continues this hot start the Mets will be a dangerous team. He has been swinging the bat well and finding his spots at the plate.
- The Met relievers did not allow a run in relief. They combined for 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball.
