The New York Mets face off against the Florida Marlins at Sun Life Stadium. This was the third and final game of the first series between the two teams. The Mets got off to a great start as Willie Harris homered off Javier Vazquez which also scored Jose Reyes to start the game. That was the first of many for the Mets who would score a season-high 9 runs off the Marlins. They knocked Javier Vazquez out in the 3rd inning. Vazquez was charged with 4 of the 9 runs the Mets scored. He walked 5 batters and gave up two homeruns. He really didn’t have any command and struggled to keep Mets hitters from reaching base. The Mets had a great start out of R.A. Dickey who went six innings, gave up one unearned run, and struck out 7 batters. He had his knuckle curve dancing all over the plate this afternoon. He was brilliant in his strategy to get batters out. Dickey did walk 3 batters, but was able to hold the runners when he needed it most.
Game Notes:
- Ike Davis hit a deep solo homerun to left field off Javier Vazquez in the 3rd inning. Ike went 2-5 from the plate including a strikeout.
- David Wright was hitless for the game, but drew 2 walks.
- The Mets went 2-15 with RISP.
- Jose Reyes went 2-6 including a double. He was vital in getting the Mets some energy early with his double in the first inning.
- The bullpen for the Mets gave up only one earned run in three innings of relief.
The Mets will have a day off on Monday and will face off against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. Chris Young will get the start for the Mets as he will go up against Joe Blanton.
