Phillies beat Mets 2-1

The New York Mets faced the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. Jon Niese faced off against two-time Cy-Young winner Roy Halladay. Niese pitched an excellent game as he went 6.1 innings, allowing six hits, and two runs. He gave up the two runs in 7th inning. One was a solo homerun from John Mayberry and the other was a sac fly from Placido Polanco. Niese did well, but he started to tire late in the game which resulted in him getting the lost.

Halladay was brilliant and despite the seven hits he was able to limit the Mets to just one run. He was great in the strike out department as he struck out eight Met hitters. He would pick up a complete game by throwing only 107 pitches. He is a great pitcher because he can keep the team in the game and leaves it up to the offense to give him the support. Halladay is now 4-1 with and ERA of 2.14 on the season and continues to set the standard of great pitching.

Game Notes:

  • Carlos Beltran drove in a run on an RBI single in the 4th inning.
  • The Met relievers didn’t allow any runs over their 1.2 innings of work.
  • Ike Davis hitting streak was ended when he went 0-4 in this game.
