The New York Mets took on the Philadelphia Phillies in the second game of a three game series. The Mets sent Mike Pelfrey to the mound to face off against Joe Blanton. The Mets were not happy to see Pelfrey struggle for the second consecutive time. He went 2.0 innings, gave up 8 hits, and allowed 6 earned runs. The Phillies scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning and that was enough to close the door on Pelfrey. He has to get his pitches under control and have movement behind his pitches. His struggles will only hurt the Mets. Ryan Howard went 4-4 including a homerun and two RBI’s.
In the 4th inning Angel Pagan hit a two-run homerun off of Joe Blanton and the comeback was on. In the 5th inning the Mets scored 5 runs to tie the game at 7. The Mets showed that they weren’t going to back down from the Phillies and I like their effort. In the 5th inning the Phillies tacked on two more runs off of Blaine Boyer. He would allow one more run in the 6th inning.
Game Notes:
- Carlos Beltran went 3-1 and he scored 2 runs. He was also hit by a pitch in the fourth inning. He is playing great to start the season and his knees seem to be fine.
- The Mets are now 3-2 on the young season and are looking to some how beat Roy Halladay tomorrow.
