Astros burn the Mets 7-3

Minute Maid Park

The New York Mets faced the Houston Astros this afternoon at Minute Maid Park. The Mets came into the day on a three game winning streak. R.A. Dickey pitched against J.A. Happ in today’s game. Happ did an excellent job in getting batters out when he needed it. Happ went six innings allowing five hits on two runs. He pitched a great game despite allowing the solo homerun from Daniel Murphy.

Dickey looked terrible in the first inning allowing four runs on six hits. He struggled to get any movement on his knuckle ball. The Astros had a nice approach to hitting Dickey as they waited on him and delivered. They would knock Dickey out after a Bill Hall and Matt Downs solo homeruns. Dickey went 5.1 innings allowing six runs on eleven hits. He is going in a downward spiral at this point and it seems as if he can’t find the movement on his knuckle ball.

The Mets were without Carlos Beltran in this game as he was scratched before the game. He was out due to a swollen eye which would have hampered him seeing the ball in the outfield. Fernando Martinez got the start in left field for Beltran.

Game Notes:

  • Daniel Murphy went 1 of 4 with a solo homerun in the 4th inning.
  • Jason Bay went 0 of 1 including three walks.
  • Jose Reyes went 2 of 5 including an RBI single in the 9th inning.
  • Carlos Lee picked up his 2,000th hit as he went 2 of 4 with a homerun in the 7th inning.
