The New York Mets faced off against the San Francisco Giants at Citi Field to start a three game set. R.A. Dickey faced off against Ryan Vogelsong. Dickey would struggle to keep the Mets ahead in the game after Carlos Beltran blasted a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first. Dickey would last 6.0 innings allowing six runs on six hits. He gave up a homerun in the 6th inning to Nate Schierholtz to give the Giants a 6-5 lead.
Ryan Vogelsong went 4.0 innings allowed five hits on five runs. He also struggled to keep his team in the game as he allowed two homeruns.
The Mets fought back after the Giants took the lead on multiple occasions. They couldn’t get in a run in the bottom of the 9th as they had the bases loaded with one out. They were trying to capture their first walk-off homerun of the season. Josh Thole would ground into an inning ending double play.
Game Notes:
- Jose Reyes went 3-3 with three walks and a run scored. He also had an RBI single in the 6th inning to tie the game at six. Jose tied a career-high three walks.
- Ike Davis hit a two-run homerun in the 3rd inning that gave the Mets 5-4 lead.
- Taylor Buchholz picked up his first lost of the season as he gave up a solo homerun in the top of the 10th to give the Giants a 7-6 lead. That was the only hit he allowed in his inning of work.
- Brian Wilson picked up his 9th save of the season.
