K-Rod stumbles in the 9th; Phillies win 6-4

The Mets took on the MLB leading Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field. The Mets welcomed back Angel Pagan after activating him from the disabled list earlier today. Fernando Martinez was sent down to Triple-A Buffalo to make room for Pagan.

The Mets started Chris Capuano and he pitched a great game. Capuano went six innings allowing one run on four hits. He was spectacular with his ability to get strikeouts. He struck out eight Philly batters and only threw 78 pitches. Terry Collins took Capuano out in the 6th inning for a pinch hitter in Willie Harris.

Roy Oswalt pitched a nice game as he went six innings allowing one run on nine hits. He seemed as if his back was bothering him the entire game, but he was able to give the Phillies six strong innings.

Francisco Rodriguez came in to pitch in the 9th inning in a tied ballgame. He would give up three runs on five hits. He went 19.2 scoreless innings after his blown save in his first appearance of the season.

Angel Pagan went 2 of 4 in his return to the Mets lineup. He swung the bat with confidence and got some important hits for his team.

The Mets weren’t able to capitalize on their opportunity to get the game tied or take the lead. They had two men on with one out in the 9th inning and Daniel Murphy hit into an inning ending double play. The Mets lost 6-4 and will now try to win the next two games to win the series.

Game Notes:

  • Justin Turner went 4 of 5 with a double and an RBI single.
  • Jose Reyes went 2 of 5 with three runs scored. He was able to get on base and bring home three key runs for the Mets.
