Marlins beat Mets 2-1

The New York Mets faced the Florida Marlins at Citi Field tonight. The Mets announced that David Wright will miss at least the next ten days due to a stress fracture in his lower back. More than likely the Mets will place him on the Disabled List tomorrow. Wright will seek a 2nd opinion tomorrow.

The Mets sent Mike Pelfrey to the mound to face Josh Johnson. Pelfrey pitched another great game as he allowed one run on six hits. The only run came on a Mike Stanton homerun in the 7th inning. He has pitched much better since the Mets paired him with Ronny Paulino instead of Josh Thole.

Josh Johnson left the game after five innings with a bruised right forearm. Johnson took a shot off his forearm on a Beltran single. Johnson went five innings allowing one run on seven hits. He gave up an RBI double from Justin Turner in the 4th inning to give the Mets a one run lead.

The game was delayed by and hour and twenty minutes due to a wet infield. The game would go into extra innings where the Marlins would get the go ahead run off Igarashi in the 11th inning.

Game Notes:

  • Jon Niese made it interesting with a triple with two outs in the 11th.
  • Jose Reyes struck out with Niese on third that would have tied the game.
  • Leo Nunez came in a notched his 15th save of the season. Nunez has been perfect so far this season and is dominating the closing spot for the Marlins.
