The New York Mets finished up their series against the Chicago Cubs this afternoon. The Mets were coming off a ran shortened game in which they won 7 to 4. The game only lasted seven innings due to rain. R.A. Dickey got the start this afternoon trying to follow up his last performance with a win. Dickey left early with an injured right heel and foot. Dickey was replace by Pedro Beato who went 1.1 innings allowing four runs on four hits. He also walked two batters and gave up a two-run homerun to Carlos Pena. This was his worst outing by far in his early career. He struggled in his last appearance against the Yankees as well where he gave up his first career earned runs.
Carlos Zambrano went six innings allowing two runs on six hits. He pitched a great game as he also struck out five batters. Zambrano had a great game hitting as well he went 3 of 3 with an RBI single and a run scoring double. He showed why he is one of the best hitting pitchers in MLB history.
Pat Misch came in after Beato and gave up a two-run double to Alfonso Soriano in the 5th inning. He went an inning allowing four hits on three runs.
The bullpen struggled to get outs and gave up runs. They weren’t prepared to work that many innings this afternoon and it showed. The team used a total of seven pitchers to get through the game. The Mets now have to find a new starter if Dickey has to miss time with his injury.
