The New York Mets hosted the San Francisco Giants at Citi Field in their second game of the
series. The Mets would face two-time Cy-Young award winner Tim Lincecum. This game was dominated by Lincecum as he struck out a total of 12 batters. He went 7.0 innings and allowed five hits on no runs. He did an excellent job in pounding the strike zone and keeping the Met hitters off balance. Lincecum would eventually win his first career game in New York.
Chris Capuano would pitch a nice game, but didn’t get any run support from
his team. Capuano went 6.1 innings allowing eight hits on two runs. He also struck out five batters and walked three. He was great even though he allowed the two runs. He hasn’t pitched bad for the Mets lately since his terrible start against the Rockies where he gave up seven runs. He has started to become consistent in not giving up many runs, but hasn’t received the necessary run support over the last two starts.
Game Notes:
- Carlos Beltran went 2-3 with a double and a single. He also drew a walk in the bottom of the 1st. He is starting to look locked in at the plate. And so far his knee is something of the past.
- Aubrey Huff went 3-4 for the Giants including a double in 4th inning.
- David Wright picked up his 3rd error of the season on a throw to first trying to get a double play.
- Brian Wilson picked up his 10th save to close out a Giants shutout. Wilson went an inning and struck out two Met batter to end the game.
- Collectively the Giants struck out 16 Met batters.
