Interleague play was on at Yankee Stadium tonight as the Mets battled the Yankees. R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and faced off against Freddie Garcia. Dickey pitched his best game of the season as he went six innings allowing one run on four hits. He was dominant as he was able to strikeout six Yankee hitters. Hopefully he can continue this success into his next start and help get the Mets some wins. The only run he allowed was a homerun to Mark Teixeira in the 3rd inning. Dickey picked up his first win since his first start which was on April 3rd.
Freddie Garcia went seven innings allowing two runs on five hits. He was breezing through the lineup before he gave up a solo homerun to Daniel Murphy in the 6th inning. He pitched a great game, but wasn’t able to get any run support to get the win.
With this win the Mets have now pulled themselves to .500 for the first time since April 9th when they were 4-4. They have played at a much better level considering the terrible start. The injuries have piled up, but the call ups have produced at a very high level.
Justin Turner continued his unbelievable start as he went 3 of 4 with RBI double in the 4th inning to tie the game. Turner now has a batting average of .364 including 14 RBI’s. He is dominating on both the offensive end and in the field.
Game Notes:
- Daniel Murphy hit is second game winning homerun of the season. Murphy went 1 of 4 on the night.
- Francisco Rodriguez notched his 15th save of the season and continues his dominance in the 9th inning.
