The New York Mets faced the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The Mets learned before the game that pitcher Chris Young will be out for the long term. Young has a tear in his anterior capsule in his right shoulder. This is the same injury Johan Santana suffered at the end of the 2010 season. This was a huge blow to the Mets because of what Young has accomplished this season. He was 1-0 with an ERA of 1.88 in 24 innings.
Chris Capuano pitched a great game as he went 6.2 innings allowing five hits and two runs. Both runs were scored by Chris Iannetta. He was able to break a 1-1 tie in the 7th inning on a line drive homerun to left field. Capuano wasn’t able to get any run support despite having the his team get the bases loaded on two occasions.
Jhoulys Chacin pitched were well considering walking six batters. The 23-year old went 6.0 innings allowing one run and two hits. He was able to somehow get out of some jams that could have been costly. He really showed why he is a nice young pitcher.
Game Notes:
- Jose Reyes went 0-5 and grounded out a total of four times. He is the heart of this team and when he struggles the team struggles.
- Ike Davis continued his hot hitting as he went 2-4.
- Huston Street picked up his 12th save of the season and now leads the majors in saves.
