Mets shutout the Nationals; Win 3-0

The New York Mets faced the Washington Nationals for the first of two games at Citi Field. The Mets officially placed David Wright on the 15-day disabled list. Nick Evans was called up to fill the roster spot in the absence of Wright. Ruben Tejada started at second base after the Mets called him up yesterday afternoon.

Jon Niese started for the Mets trying to capture his third win of the season. Niese went seven innings allowing no runs on six hits. Niese was sharp for the entire game and was able to strikeout seven batters. This was one of his more dominating starts this season. At one point Niese retired twelve straight batters he faced. He was very good tonight considering the on and off again rain.

Tom Gorzelanny went 5.2 innings allowing three runs on seven hits. Gorzelanny also walked five batters and struck out seven batters. He wasn’t sharp at all tonight and he struggled to find the strike zone at times.

The Mets captured their first shutout win since September 10, 2010.
