The New York Mets took on the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight at Citi Field. R.A. Dickey started even though he wasn’t 100% with his injured heel. Dickey was outstanding up until the 7th inning. He would give up three runs to give the Pirates the lead. Dickey pitched his best game of the season. He would strikeout a career-high 10 batters. His knuckle ball moved at possibly its’ best since his tenure with the Mets. The lost really overshadowed an excellent performance.
James McDonald pitched for the Pirates and gave up only one run, but couldn’t get the win. McDonald went six innings allowing one run on six hits. He didn’t have a terrible pitching performance, but his team couldn’t get him any runs while he was in the game.
Bobby Parnell pitched in the 9th inning and gave up two unearned runs. He struggled with his command and walked one batter. The Mets had to bring Dale Thayer to get the last batter out.
Game Notes:
- Angel Pagan went 2 of 4 including a double and a run.
- Daniel Murphy went 2 of 4 with two strikeouts.
