The New York Mets faced the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. The Mets were coming into the night on a two game winning streak and a red hot Carlos Beltran. The Mets sent Dillon Gee to the mound to face Bud Norris. The Mets went down by by four runs and were struggling to get any hits off Norris. Then in the 7th inning Jason Bay hit a solo homerun to left field to cut the Astro lead to three runs. Fernando Martinez came in as a pinch hitter and hit a two-run shot to right field for his first homerun of the season. Then David Wright came up with a runner on first and he hit a two-run homerun to give the Mets the lead.
Dillon Gee went five innings allowing four runs on five hits. He was lucky to just give up the four runs considering the Astros ran themselves out of two innings. He was sharp early, but struggled in the 6th inning and allowed the Astros to pick him apart.
Bud Norris went 7.1 innings allowing four runs on five hits. He was dominant early, but the homeruns ended his night and overshadowed his good pitching performance. He was able to strikeout eight batters, but wasn’t able to get the win.
The Mets finally showed that they can come from behind with a deficit of four runs. Pat Misch came in a got the win for the Mets. The bullpen went four scoreless innings of relief.
Game Notes:
- Jason Bay went 1 of 3 and hit a solo homerun in the 7th inning. This was only his second homerun of the season, but it gave the Mets momentum to build on.
- Fernando Martinez hit his first homerun of the season and the second of his career. He came in as a pinch hitter in the 8th inning and delivered for the Mets. He was just called up yesterday to fill the void of Ike Davis who went on the DL.
- David Wright went 1 of 3 with a two-run homer in the 8th inning. He had the day off yesterday and it looks as if it may have gotten him back on track.
- Jason Pridie went 1 of 4 including a RBI double in the 9th to give the Mets a two run lead. He has been struggling late, but tonight he really helped with his insurance run.
- Francisco Rodriguez picked up his 11th save of the season in 1.1 innings of work. He came in for a four out save and delivered. He has really picked up his game again as he has now recorded 11 straight save opportunities.
