Allan Houston is about to be named the General Manager of the Erie Bayhawks of Erie, PA. Houston has worked under Donnie Walsh over the last couple of years and is possibly going to be the Knick GM of the future. This move by the Knicks will give Houston the experience he needs to run any team on a daily basis.
Via Marc Berman NY Post:
The move to manage a D-League team is a Knicks first and a philosophical departure. The Knicks have never sent a player to the D-League – believed to be the only club not to do so. Sources have said the Knicks didn’t trust its assigned D-League affiliate (this year it was Springfield, Mass.) because the coaching staff and medical staff did not work for them.
Now the Knicks will hire the coaching staff for the Bayhawks and possibly name one of coach Mike D’Antoni’s assistants as head coach. Phil Weber, Kenny Atkinson, Herb Williams and Dan D’Antoni all have contracts that expire June 30th. D’Antoni plans to hire an additional defensive-minded assistant for the Knicks.
