Angels beat Mets 7-3

The New York Mets faced the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim today at Citi Field. The Mets and Angels split the first two games and both teams wanted to walk away with the series win. The Mets offense was able to break up the shutout in the 9th on a Jose Reyes RBI single that scored Ruben Tejada. Another run would score on a groundout RBI by Justin Turner. And Carlos Beltran would knock in Jose Reyes with his RBI single.

Jon Niese started for the Mets, but was knocked out after four innings of work. He really struggled as the Angels were able to get eight hits causing five runs (four earned). This was his first bad start in a while and it seemed as if he could not get any outs. The Mets have the day off tomorrow and it is a much needed one.

Tyler Chatwood dominated the Met hitters as he allowed just four hits and held the Mets scoreless. He struggled with walks as he walked four batters. He provided the his team with great pitching and the team supplied lots of runs. Chatwood went seven innings and threw 117 pitches in his outing. If it wasn’t for the walks he would have went longer.

Game Notes:

  • Josh Thole went 2 of 3 with two singles and a walk.
  • Ruben Tejada went 2 of 4 with two singles. He had a very nice day for the Mets as he also scored the first run of the game.
