The New York Mets finished up their three game series this afternoon against the Oakland Athletics. The game started after a two and a half hour rain delay. The Mets were playing their final game at Citi Field before embarking on a six game road trip. The Mets will play the Rangers and the Tigers before returning home next Friday.
The Mets started Chris Capuano who pitched a great game for them. Capuano went six innings allowing just five hits on zero runs. He pitched very well, but the Mets are concerned with a little discomfort that Capuano expressed after pitching the sixth inning. The Mets have to be concerned with this because Capuano has a history with injuries in his past.
The Oakland A’s started Graham Godfrey who was looking to capture his second consecutive win. Godfrey gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits. He didn’t pitch overly bad, but his team committed silly mistakes. He was able to strikeout four batters, but threw 115 pitches which limited is ability to go further in the game.
The Mets scored two runs in the 2nd inning on a Chris Capuano groundout and a Jose Reyes RBI single. Daniel Murphy helped the Mets as he singled in Reyes in the fifth inning. Reyes would single again in the sixth inning extending the Met lead to 4-0. The Mets offense was much better tonight as they were able to get on base and find a way to score.
Game Notes:
- Daniel Murphy went 3 of 4 with an RBI single. Murphy finally had a nice game after struggling in the last week or so.
- Pedro Beato pitched two innings allowing one run on one hit. Beato is pitching much better after his rough outings since his return from the disabled list. He is starting to pitch very well and is looking like the Beato from earlier in the season.
- Francisco Rodriguez notched his 20th save of the season with a 1-2-3 9th inning.
