Mets beat Braves 6-4

The New York Mets finished up their series against the Atlanta Braves tonight at Citi Field. The Mets didn’t start Jason Bay who is really struggling right now. Bay has been a disappointment thus far for the Mets team and the fans. He has to get back on track and become a clutch hitter.

R.A. Dickey started for the Mets and was phenomenal for the entire game. Dickey went eight strong innings allowing one run on four hits. He gave up a homerun to Brian McCann in the 7th and that was the only run he allowed. Dickey has been on his game since he injured his heel. His knuckleball is working very well right now and he is overmatching hitters. Dickey is starting to look like the Dickey from last season. It is very important that Dickey pitches well because the Mets need everything to work out for them.

Tim Hudson started for the Braves and really struggled from the start. He gave up two early runs in the first and another two in the second. The Mets were hitting his pitches early in the count and swung at great pitches. This was the second shortest outing for Hudson this season. He now has a 4-5 record with a 4.14 ERA.

Francisco Rodriguez gave up a three-run homerun to Diory Hernandez. This was a none save situation for Rodriguez, but he didn’t look sharp at all.

Carlos Beltran did leave tonight’s game with an injured calf after fouling off a ball off his right leg. Beltran is day-to-day with this injury and it comes at the wrong time for the Mets. Hopefully, Beltran doesn’t miss many games because the Mets need his bat.

Game Notes:

  • Jose Reyes went 2 of 4 with a RBI double and two runs scored. Reyes is playing really well right now and continues to swing a hot bat.
  • Daniel Murphy went 2 of 3 and continues to get multiple hit games.
