Mets beat Brewers 2-1

The New York Mets faced the Milwaukee Brewers tonight at Miller Park. This was the first of three games against the Brewers. The Mets were trying to continue their winning ways as they vied for their third straight win. The Mets started Chris Capuano who would face off against Shaun Marcum. This was an excellent pitching matchup because it was a pitchers duel.

Chris Capuano went six innings allowing a run on six hits. The one run came on a Prince Fielder solo homerun. Capuano was strong in getting batters out when he needed to. Capuano pitched a great game and kept the Mets in position to comeback and win.

Shaun Marcum pitched a great game as he allowed just two hits over six innings. He continues to pitched very well for the Brewers and is becoming a nice pitcher to have in any rotation. Marcum would receive the no decision from his bullpen and was robbed of his 7th win of the season.

Jose Reyes would give the Mets the lead on his 11th triple of the season. Reyes continues to swing a hot bat and is becoming more and more valuable to the franchise. He has become a clutch hitter and has delivered for the Mets when they needed him most. Reyes went 2 of 5 with a two run triple.

Game Notes:

  • Daniel Murphy went 0-3 with a walk. This ended Murphy’s nine game hitting streak.
  • Jason Bay continued his slump as he went 0-3 with a strikeout. Bay is now in his worst career slump. He looks lost at the plate and is missing a lot of pitches. He is a much better hitter then he is showing. He is now hitless in his last 20 at-bats.
  • Ruben Tejada went 2 of 3 with a double.
  • Francisco Rodriguez picked up his 17th save of the season.
