The New York Mets finished up their series against the Milwaukee Brewers tonight. The Mets were coming off a blown lead from their bullpen after they gave them a four point lead. The Mets need a better effort from their bullpen because if they struggle the team will stop getting runs. The team is getting in runs, but the pitching hasn’t met the offense.
Jon Niese started for the Mets as he went 7.2 innings allowing just two hits. He also struck out eight batters. He arguably pitched his best pitching performance of the season. Niese is proving that he belongs in this league with performances like this. The Mets have been getting excellent starting pitching from their starters and look to have figured out a nice rotation.
Yovani Gallardo started for the Brewers as he was looking for his 7th straight win. He has pitched well this season, but the Mets were able to knock him out early. Gallardo went four innings allowing four runs on ten hits. He struggled to keep the ball down and the Met hitters were able to get some hits. For the first time during his six game winning streak he gave up more than two runs.
Worth Mentioning: Jason Bay was held out of tonight’s lineup to get himself together during his slump. Pridie replaced him in left field. Bay has been struggling since he signed with the Mets last season. The Mets are being very patient with him and hoping that he snaps out of it sooner rather than latter. It is very important for Bay to get back to the Bay of old if the Mets have any chance to make a run this season. The Mets will give Bay a couple of games off to get himself together.
Game Notes:
- Jose Reyes had a rare off game with a 0 of 5 night. He struggled for the first time in a while. Reyes has been hot all season and this game doesn’t speak of the season he is having.
- Ruben Tejada went 2 of 4 with an RBI single in the 2nd inning to start the scoring for the Mets.
- Francisco Rodriguez notched his 18th save of the season.
