Mets fall to Brewers 7-6

The New York Mets faced the Milwaukee Brewers in the second game of a three game series. The Mets were riding a three game winning streak and were looking for win number four. Mike Pelfrey would face off against long time Mets nemesis Randy Wolf.

Mike Pelfrey went six strong innings allowing two runs on four hits. He would retire the final eight batters he faced. The two runs came on a Prince Fielder two-run homerun. This was a major improvement by Pelfrey who gave up seven runs in his previous start. The Mets needed a good start out of him and he was able to keep a small deficit so that the team could try to get the lead.

Randy Wolf went 6.2 innings allowing one run on four hits. The one run came on a balk by Wolf that would score Jason Bay. Wolf pitched a great game and put his team in position to win the game. He left the game with a one run lead.

The Mets had a very exciting 8th inning when they scored five runs. It was started by a Jose Reyes infield single and stolen base. Turner would walk and then Beltran would hit a double that would score Reyes. Angel Pagan hit a single that scored Justin Turner. Then after an Angel Pagan stolen base Ronny Paulino hit his first homerun of the season which plated three runs.

The Mets had an excellent inning to tie the game and then have the killer instinct to break the game open. Jose Reyes was the spark and he was able to fire his team up and get the pitcher rattled. He had his 30th multi-hit game of the season.

Pedro Beato struggled with the 6-2 lead as he gave up a two-run single to Ryan Braun. He continues to struggle since he came back from the disabled list. He would leave after a 1/3 inning pitched.

Jason Isringhausen came in after Beato and served up a two-run homerun to Prince Fielder to tie the game.

The Mets bullpen struggled yet again and let the team down with their horrific performance in the 8th.

Brewers win on a walk-off double in the bottom of the 9th inning by Nyjer Morgan.

Prince Fielder proved to be a huge factor as he clubbed 2 two-run homeruns.

Game Notes:

  • Jose Reyes went 2 of 4 including a double and a walk.
  • Ronny Paulino went 4 of 4 with three singles and a three-run homerun. He really stepped up for the Mets tonight and proved to be a big factor in the game.
  • Jason Bay went 0 for 3 and continues to slump badly. He is really lost at the plate and is struggling badly for the team.
