The New York Mets faced the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field. This game was delayed to start and begun at 8:50 PM. Then in the fourth inning the game was put into another delay which lasted an hour and a half. Angel Pagan gave the Mets an extended lead after his two-run homerun in the fourth inning. Jose Reyes knocked in a run as he hit into a groundout that plated Lucas Duda. The Mets finally hit a homerun after getting wins without it.

Dillon Gee started for the Mets as he had a short outing due to the rain. He did go four innings allowing no runs on one hit. He didn’t get the win, but he did show signs that he might pitch a gem. Gee is pitching like the ace of the Mets right now. He continues to show that he can be a great pitcher. The Mets are now 10-0 in all of Gee’s starts this season.

Tim Hudson started for the Braves trying to put his recent lost to the Mets behind him. Hudson also pitched a short outing due to the rain. He went four innings allowing three runs on four hits. The Mets continue to hit him hard this season and they have done it without any power. The Braves weren’t able to get Hudson off the hook and he was credited with the lost.

Bobby Parnell came in to pitch the 7th inning as he allowed one hit over two innings. Parnell had possibly his best appearance of the season as he struck out five batters. He looked much better as he commanded his pitches for the first time in a while. He gave the Mets much needed innings to get through the game. Parnell was credited with the win after his excellent performance out of the pen.

The Mets pitching was phenomenal tonight as they combined for a two-hit shutout. Four pitchers dominated for the Mets and the importance of the win brings them back to .500.

Game Notes:

  • Jason Bay went 2 of 4 as he had his first multi-hit game since May 29th. He hit the ball really hard tonight and it seemed as if he saw the ball much better.
  • Jose Reyes went 1 of 4 with a double. The double tonight gave him 20 doubles on the season to lead the team. He is just on fire from the plate and many teams are starting to look at him as a possible addition to their team.
  • Jason Heyward returned to the Braves lineup after being activated from the disabled list. Heyward went 0-2 with a walk in his return to the Braves lineup.
  • Francisco Rodriguez came in to finish the game in a non-save situation. Rodriguez completed his 27th game finished.
