The New York Mets played their final game of a four game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight. The Mets were coming off a nice win in which they beat the Pirates 7-0. Mike Pelfrey was sent to the mound to face off against Paul Maholm.
Mike Pelfrey wanted to help his team continue their great run. Pelfrey went seven innings allowing two runs on four hits. He didn’t pitch bad, but his teammates weren’t able to get him any runs. Pelfrey gave up one run in the first inning and then another one in the 5th inning on a Brandon Wood homerun.
Paul Maholm pitched a great game as he allowed just three hits over seven innings. He was able to have the Mets swing early at his pitches allowing him to get ahead in the count. He has pitched well over his last two starts and is starting to look like the Maholm from earlier this season.
Game Notes:
- Jose Reyes went 0 of 3 with a sac fly.
- The Mets didn’t have an extra base hit in this game.
