The New York Mets took on the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight at Citi Field. The Mets were looking for a win to take a 2-1 series lead. Chris Capuano pitched for the Mets and opposed Kevin Correia of the Pirates. Correia pitched well enough to earn his eighth win of the season. He is the first pitcher in the Majors to have eight wins. He went six innings allowing two runs on six hits. He picked up a quality start and put his team in position to win the game.
Capuano pitched six innings allowing five runs on eight hits. He only threw 79 pitches, but the Pirates were able to get five runs off him in the 7th inning. Capuano pitched well early on in the game, but late infield hits hindered his ability to get a win.
The Pirates now have the chance to take the series with a win tomorrow. The Mets bullpen continued to struggle as they gave up four earned runs. The bullpen has really struggled over the last few games. They have to get back to where they were if the Mets have any chance at winning.
Game Notes:
- Ruben Tejada went 2 of 4 including a two run single in the 4th inning.
- Justin Turner hit his second homerun of the season in the 8th inning. He continues to swing the bat well and drive in runs.
