Pre-Game: Angels vs. Mets 7:10 PM

The New York Mets will face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim tonight at Citi Field. The Mets are coming off a very successful road trip in which they went 6-4 with two series wins. They have played much better during this road trip as they try to get over .500. This team still makes the little mistakes that cost them some games, but when they are on they can compete with the best teams. Last night the Mets lost a heartbreaker as they saw a two-run lead evaporate on a Brooks Conrad pinch hit two-run homerun. Francisco Rodriguez blew his first save in 20 straight save opportunities. He wasn’t sharp at all and his pitches didn’t work well together.

Tonight Chris Capuano will start for the Mets as he tries to win his third consecutive game. Capuano is coming off an amazing pitching performance where he went seven innings allowing just three hits. He pitched an excellent game and allowed his offense to get him some runs and win the game. The Mets are still getting great starting pitching from their starters. Dickey last night didn’t help the team at all with his terrible performance as he allowed six runs (four earned). The Mets need a nice game from Capuano to put this team back on the right track.

Joel Pineiro will get the ball for the Angels as he tries to get his game going again. Pineiro has given up four earned runs in his last five starts. He is really struggling right now and is looking terrible. The Mets have the advantage tonight because they can get hits off Pineiro. Pineiro has given up 47 hits in his last five starts and has struck out only 11 batters over that span. The Mets need to win tonight to put them back in the right direction.

The thing to watch this series is Jose Reyes who is hitting at his best. He is locked in at the plate and I believe that he will have an amazing home stand. His presence has made the Mets a better team. Somehow the Mets have to figure out how to keep this young man. He serves more than just a player, but he is vital in the clubhouse and is becoming an outstanding leader. Then one question may be asked, what will Reyes do this series?
