The Mets and Rangers will play the second game of a three game series this afternoon at 4:10 PM. The Rangers won last night beating the Mets 8-1. The Mets didn’t get great pitching from any of their guys except D.J. Carrasco. Mike Pelfrey gave up a two-run homer and Manny Acosta gave up a pair of two-run homers. Both pitchers really hurt the Mets chances at winning this game tonight. The Mets need to pitch down in the zone in order to keep the Rangers from hitting homeruns. The Mets need this series to boost their spirits and give them hope at getting the Wild Card.
Jon Niese will start for the Mets looking to rebound after his terrible start his last time out. It is important that the Mets get a great game out of him if they have any chance at winning this game. Niese has pitched good this season and has had some bad starts, but overall he is showing the Mets that he is their pitcher of the future. Niese is 6-6 and is looking to get win number seven.
Alexi Oganda will start for the Rangers trying to get his eighth win of the season. He is a great pitcher who is proving that he is a starter in the Major League. He is consistent and is dominating hitters. He is a strikeout pitcher, so the Mets have to be smart when swinging at his pitches. He doesn’t walk many batters, but he is a young pitcher so if the Mets get on base they have to run. The more running they do the more rattled Oganda will become.
