The New York Mets traveled to Detroit, Michigan to get ready for their series against the Tigers tonight at 7:05 PM. The Mets are coming off a very successful road series against a tough team the Texas Rangers. The Mets went 2-1 and their offense caught fire in both wins. Jose Reyes was on fire in the series against the Rangers he went 6-14 over the three games with five runs scored and two stolen bases. He had a .428 batting average in those three games as well. He continues to show the Mets that they need to somehow keep him. His presence is contagious and his teammates have started to follow his lead. Reyes is showing that he might be the best shortstop in all of baseball with his consistent effort. Reyes leads the league in triples with 14. The Mets are hoping for his best efforts in this series against the Tigers. Also tonight will mark Jose Reyes’ 1,000th career game.
R.A. Dickey will start for the Mets and is looking to continue his success from his last start. Dickey went eight innings allowing just one run and three hits. Sadly he wasn’t able to get the win, but the Mets would eventually win the game. He pitched a great game and deserved a win, but his team was able to still win the game. The Mets need him to continue to pitch the way he has because eventually he will begin to get wins. Dickey will try to get his fourth win of the season and start a streak of wins.
Rick Porcello will get the ball for the Tigers as he looks for his seventh win of the season. Porcello is coming off a terrible performance in which he allowed five runs on nine hits. His team was able to get him off the hook as he was credited with a no decision. The Mets will have something in their favor tonight. Porcello gives up lots of hits and runs, If the Mets can get great pitching they will easily win this game.
The Mets are looking to get over .500 for the first time since April. A series win will pull them closer in the Wild-Card race. The trade-deadline is approaching very quickly and the Mets are in the middle of buying or selling. This team is close in the Wild-Card standings and a winning streak will get them first play in those standings. So should the Mets buy or sell? My guess is as good as yours, but I think this team hasn’t even hit its’ best. Once everyone comes back from injury the Mets will be a tough team to beat.
