Rangers blowout Mets 8-1

The New York Mets traveled to Arlington, Texas to take on the Rangers. The Mets were coming off a 2-1 series win over the Oakland Athletics and were looking to continue the success against the Rangers tonight. The Mets bats were held down for the most part and the Rangers never allowed the Mets to cluster together any hits. The Mets were getting hits, but they lacked the ability to knock in the runners.

Mike Pelfrey was on the mound for the Mets trying to get his fifth win of the season. Pelfrey went six innings allowing four runs on eight hits. He struggled to get outs early and that really hurt him. He gave up a three-run homerun to Adrian Beltre in the 1st inning. He gave his team no chance in getting a win for him tonight. Pelfrey struggled after his best start of the season in his last start. The Mets need Pelfrey to be more consistent for them if they have any chance at making a run at the play-offs. Pelfrey struggled to pitch in and down in the zone. He elevated most of his pitches which really hurt his cause.

Matt Harrison started for the Rangers looking to get his record to .500. He would pitch a great game as he allowed one run on seven hits with four strikeouts. The only run he gave up came on a Ruben Tejada RBI single in the 5th inning. He really pitched well and allowed his offense to get him some runs. He really dominated the Met hitters with great pitching and was able to get out of trouble multiple times in this game. He pitched better when the their were runners on base. Harrison now has a 6-6 record and continues to pitch much better this season.

Manny Acosta pitched the seventh inning for the Mets trying to keep the deficit at three. But Acosta gave up a two-run homerun to Michael Young to extend the Rangers lead to five. Then in the 8th inning Josh Hamilton hit a two-run homerun to extend the Rangers lead to seven runs.

Jason Bay had a nice game with three singles as he went 3 of 4. Bay now has a .378 average over his last nine games which is a major improvement for him. He has struggled early on in his Met career, but it seems as if he is finally hitting. I hope Bay can come around and show the Mets that he is worth all of that money.
