Dodgers defeat Mets 6-0

The New York Mets faced the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fourth and final game of the series tonight at Dodgers Stadium. The Mets were looking for their first four game sweep of the Dodgers in franchise history.

Dillon Gee pitched for the Mets looking to capture his ninth win of the season and improve his road record to 5-0. Gee would pitch great through the first five innings, but would lose all control in the sixth inning. Gee would give up five runs in that inning on four extra base hits. Gee would end his night going 5.2 innings allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits. He really has hit a rough spot in his season and he seems to be running out of gas in the sixth inning. The Mets suffered another bad call as Greg Gibson the home plate umpire call Juan Uribe safe at home when Ronny Paulino tagged him out. Gibson called him safe when he was in fact out. Gibson made a terrible call yesterday as well in which he did apologize for. Something has to be done about the umpiring in Major League Baseball or many games will be decided on bad calls.

Clayton Kershaw went eight strong innings allowing just five hits on nine strikeouts. He fooled the Met hitters with his excellent movement on his pitches. The Dodgers have found a great young left-handed pitcher who will get better as the seasons go on. The Dodgers needed this win and got an excellent effort from their ace and all-star pitcher.

The Mets were held scoreless for the first time in since May 4th when they lost to the San Francisco Giants 2-0. The Mets were due for a bad night offensively and it came against a great young talent in Kershaw. The Mets will face the San Francisco Giants starting tomorrow night when R.A. Dickey faces off against Ryan Vogelsong. The Mets will continue their run at all-star pitchers from today and through the Philadelphia Phillies series later next week.

Game Notes:

  • Angel Pagan went 2 of 5 including his 17th stolen base. Pagan continues to fill in nicely for the injured Jose Reyes as Pagan is hitting better from the right side of the plate.
  • Daniel Murphy went 2 of 4 with two singles.
