The New York Mets continued their series against the San Francisco Giants tonight at AT&T Park. The Mets were looking to win their second game in a row as they faced off against an All-Star pitcher in Lincecum. The Mets started the scoring early as they were able to get an RBI double from Daniel Murphy that plated Carlos Beltran. That was the only run the Mets were able to plate across during the game. The Mets offense was rarely held in check during this road trip and they looked tired and weren’t sharp at all.
Chris Capuano started for the Mets as he looked to keep up his winning ways. Capuano went six strong innings allowing two runs on four hits. He would walk four batters and strikeout five. The two runs charged to Capuano both came in the first inning on a bases loaded infield single by Nate Schierholtz that scored Miguel Tejada. They would then score on a fielder’s choice that scored Pablo Sandoval. Those early runs proved to be costly for the Mets as they struggled to get hit after hit. Capuano was charged with his eighth lost of the season.
Tim Lincecum was sent to the mound to make his final start before the All-Star game. Lincecum would go six innings allowing one run on four hits. He pitched a great game as he was able to to pitch around his four walks. He didn’t allow the Met hitters to get extra base hits and held them down after the first inning. The Giant pitcher is now 7-7 and is headed to the All-Star game.
Bobby Parnell pitched the seventh inning looking to keep the Met deficit at one run. But Parnell wasn’t able to get a double play from his defense which plated a run. Parnell went an inning allowing one run on two hits including a strikeout.
The Mets defense has really let them down in this series. Tonight the defense was unable to turn three double plays and all plated a run for the Giants. The defense has to get back on track if the Mets are going to go anywhere this season.
