Mets beat Dodgers 5-2

The New York Mets played at Dodger Stadium tonight as they looked to beat the lowly Dodgers. The Mets were coming off a thrilling win as they were able to get a walk-off hit from Jason Bay. The Mets avoided the sweep as they lost the series to the Yankees 1-2. The Mets had the momentum coming into the night as they faced the worst team in the National League. Jose Reyes did not play tonight as he tries to rest his hamstring over the next couple of days. If Jose misses this current series against the Dodgers there is a possibility that he may go on the disabled list. The Mets are hoping that Jose can return as soon as possible to help this team.

Chris Capuano pitched for the Mets tonight as he looked for his third straight win. Capuano struggled through the start of the game, but allowed his team to get him some runs for the win. Capuano went six innings allowing two runs on six hits. He didn’t allow any homeruns which was a good thing for the Mets tonight. This win gives Capuano eight wins on the season in which he was 3-6 at one point this season.

Rubby De La Rosa started for the Dodgers looking to snap a three game losing streak. De La Rosa went seven innings allowing three runs on five hits. He did have a no-hitter through the first five innings. He was dominating the Mets hitters with his perfect changeup, but he went to his best pitch too many times and the Met hitters were able to get hits off him. De La Rosa gave up three doubles each of which resulted in a run.

The Mets offense was held in check early, but they were able to cluster together hits yet again which resulted in a win. The Mets continue to play better on the road and have played some of their better games on the road. The Mets were able to tact on two more runs in the 8th inning to push their lead to 5-2.

Game Notes:

  • Angel Pagan went 2 of 5 with two doubles and two runs scored. He continues to play much better since he returned from the disabled list.
  • Jason Bay went 1 of 4 with an RBI single in the 8th inning. He continues to look like the Bay of old as he is starting to get his swing back. The Mets need him to produce for this team as they try to get to the playoffs. Bay now has increased his average to .278 and is producing for this team during his seven game hitting streak.
  • Ruben Tejada went 2 of 4 with two singles. His swing is looking much better and it seems as if he has found his spot in the lineup.
  • Francisco Rodriguez came in looking for his 24th save of the season. Rodriguez would give up a hit and strike out two batters to earn his 24th save of the season.
