The New York Mets faced the Cincinnati Reds tonight at the Great American Ball Park. The Mets won last night and were looking for another win tonight. They were helped tonight by the Reds who committed three errors resulting in six runs. The Reds really deserved to lose this game due to their lack of concentration.
Jon Niese started for the Mets looking to give the Mets a great start. Niese lasted just five innings after he gave up four runs in the fifth inning. He really struggled as the game went on as he allowed the Reds to take the lead. Niese gave up five runs on six hits with five strikeouts. He really had his great pitching going early as he recorded his strikeouts early in the game. The Mets were able to get him the lead with him still in the game putting him in position to get the win.
Johnny Cueto started for Reds looking to get another win and bring his ERA further down. Cueto was put in an awful position as his defense committed three costly errors to put the Mets in position to win. He went five innings allowing six unearned runs and seven hits. He threw 110 pitches through those five innings and resulted in his short outing.
The Mets swung the bat really well tonight and were able to capitalize on all of the Reds errors. This was the first time it seemed that the Mets were given all of the opportunities in which they converted.
Game Notes:
- Carlos Beltran went 1 for 3 with two walks and three run scored.
- David Wright went 2 for 5 with a groundout RBI and a single.
- Daniel Murphy went 3 for 4 with an RBI single and a RBI double. He was on again tonight as he continues to swing a clutch bat.
- Jason Pridie went 2 for 5 with a two-run double.
- Justin Turner went 2 for 4 with a single and a double.
- Pedro Beato almost converted his first save, but a terrible botched double play sent him out of the game.
- Tim Byrdak came in to get the final out and it was against his nemesis Jay Bruce. Byrdak was able to get the final out and get a save for the Mets. This was Byrdak’s first save since 2007 when he was with the Detroit Tigers.
