Mets sweep the Reds; Win 10-9

The New York Mets were looking for their first four game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds for the first time in franchise history. And before the game the Beltran trade was made official. Zack Wheeler, whom the Mets obtained from the Giants will be pitching for the St. Lucie Mets in Florida this season. Today the Mets came out with something to prove as they looked to get their fourth win in a row.

The Mets offense came out strong again in this one as they scored a run in the first inning on a David Wright RBI single. They were down 2-1 before they would score a bunch of runs yet again. In the fourth inning Lucas Duda knocked in three runs on his three-run double. He continues to hit the ball hard since his consistent play. The Mets have to be excited about Duda and his hitting abilities. The Mets scoring wouldn’t stop their as they were able to get another run on a Josh Thole RBI single in the same inning.  The following inning the Mets got an RBI single from Angel Pagan to bring the score to 6-3. Then to cap of the inning Jason Bay hit a three-run double to bring the Met lead to 9-3. The Mets offense has been on point in this series and for the last month. They have found a way to get on base and use their speed an smart base running to score runs.

Chris Capuano started for the Mets looking to snap a three game losing streak. Capuano was going great until he started to fall apart in the sixth inning. Capuano went 5.1 innings allowing six runs on eight hits. He fell apart late and allowed the Reds to come back in the game. He really struggled to start the game, but was able to keep the Reds from getting a huge lead. He has struggled in the sixth inning over his last few starts and it seems to becoming a problem for him. The Mets have to get Capuano back on track if they are going to be competitive going further on in the season. The Mets were able to tact on a run on a wild pitch that scored Angel Pagan.

Homer Bailey started for the Reds and he really struggled this afternoon. Bailey only lasted four innings allowing nine runes on twelve hits. He didn’t help his team in any way this afternoon as he struggled to command the strike zone. He threw 74 pitches, but couldn’t get any outs. The Reds couldn’t afford to keep him out there as he struggled to keep the Mets down.

Manny Acosta came in with two runners on base and he served up a three-run homer to Miguel Cairo. He allowed the Reds to creep back into the game with the score being 9-7. This was Acosta’s first bad performance in a while.

Jason Isringhausen came in to get his fourth save of the season. Izzy came in and gave up a solo homerun to Joey Votto to cut the Met lead to one run. He would get the job done retiring three straight batters. Izzy now is three saves shy from 300 career saves.
