Nationals beat Mets 3-2

The New York Mets played their final game of a three game series against the Washington Nationals today. The Mets saw their five game winning streak snapped yesterday as they lost 3-0.  The Mets offense had finally fell silent in their shutout lost.

The Mets offense was held down yet again tonight until Scott Hairston broke up the shutout with his sixth homerun of the season. The homerun bought the Met deficit to 2-1. Then in the ninth inning Hairston was at it again when he hit his second homerun of the season to tie the game at 2-2. He really came up big for the Mets today as they needed someone to get this team going again.

Today, Jon Niese started for the Mets looking to get the team back. He would throw a great game up until the sixth inning when he allowed three straight doubles that resulted in two runs. Niese went 5.1 innings allowing two runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. He really pitched a great game despite giving up the two runs in the sixth inning. The Mets have to be happy with the effort he gave today. He fought hard to keep the Mets in the game despite the lack of run support.

Jordan Zimmermann started for the Nationals looking to snap out of a two game skid. He threw a great game as he went six innings throwing scoreless baseball allowing seven hits. He was very sharp in getting outs and he was able to strike out six batters in a win. He really dominated the Met hitters and when the Mets had men on he was able to get out of multiple jams. His team was unable to hold on to the lead which pinned him with a no decision.

Bobby Parnell came in to pitch the ninth inning and really struggled to get outs. He really made it difficult for the Mets to get a win tonight. He gave up a infield hit to Ian Desmond to score the winning run. Parnell was charged with the lost in his terrible inning of work.
