The New York Mets will start a three game series tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Mets are coming off a lost to the Florida Marlins last night as they lost 4-1. Their only run came on a sacrifice fly by Jason Bay in the ninth inning. The Mets had the tying run at the plate in Ronny Paulino, but he grounded to Hanley Ramirez to end the game. The Mets need a spark from someone to push them further along in the season. The return on Jose Reyes tonight may somehow prove key to the Mets season. If the Mets can win this series it will put them closer in their playoff races. Carlos Beltran also returns to the lineup after missing the last three games with the flu.
Dillon Gee will look to start his second half on the right foot as he starts for the Mets tonight. Gee has really started to struggle at this point in the season. He has lost two consecutive games for the first time this season after starting 7-0. The Mets need a great start from him tonight and need him to keep his team in the game just in case the offense struggles. Gee lost his last game as he he went 5.2 innings allowing five runs on five hits. This was possibly his worst start of the season and the Mets are hoping for a better effort tonight.
Kyle Lohse will oppose Gee as he looks to rebound from two terrible starts. He has pitched very up and down this season. He is really struggling now and has lost two consecutive games. In his last start Lohse went 6.2 innings allowing seven runs on seven hits. He really struggled going into the All-Star break as he went 1-3 in his last five starts. He really had his game going before the Cubs touched him up bad as they scored four runs on 11 hits. After that start Lohse has struggled to get wins and has really struggled overall.
The Mets will have to get hits off a struggling Lohse to win this game. They have Jose Reyes in the lineup and they are ready to go. Cardinals and the Mets face off tonight at 7:10 p.m. at Citi Field.
