The New York Mets will continue their series against the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at Citi Field. The Mets won the series opener last night after Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran returned to the lineup. The Mets won, but they struggled with runners on base. They left a total of 13 men on base and somehow won the game. Tonight the Mets need to keep hitting the ball and score some runs for Dickey.
R.A. Dickey will get the ball for the Mets as he tries to get his fifth win of the season. Dickey hasn’t had a great season, but this second half could be his opportunity to keep the Mets on track to make the playoffs. Dickey’s last start came against the Phillies in which he went seven innings allowing four runs on six hits. He really struggled to keep the Mets in the game against a tough Phillies pitching staff. Tonight Dickey has to come out and show that he can have a much better second half then his first half. The Mets are hopeful that Dickey can be productive and find ways to get wins for this team.
Kyle McClellan goes to the mound for the Cardinals looking to get back on track. McClellan has struggled badly coming into the day as he has a record of 2-6 over his last ten games with an ERA of 4.50. The Cardinals have to be concerned with McClellan and his lack of pitching presence. He has struggled to limit the amount of hits in his starts. But in his good starts he hasn’t received any run support from his offense.
The Mets are going up against a struggling pitcher and if they can get hit after hit they will easily beat the Cardinals tonight. Reyes is the key tonight and if he gets his hits, the Mets will win this game.
