Pre-Game: Mets vs. Dodgers 10:10 PM

The New York Mets will continue their four game series tonight against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets won the first game of the series last night as they won 5-2. The Mets were struggling to get hits through five innings and then they clustered together three RBI double to give them a one run lead. They would then tact on two more runs in the 8th inning to get them the win. The Mets will have to keep winning if they are going to have any chance at winning the wild card race.

The Mets will send the inconsistent Mike Pelfrey to the mound tonight. Pelfrey has struggled over his last two starts as he has given up four runs in each of the games. The Mets can not afford Pelfrey to be the pitcher that struggles every time out. The team has to look at Pelfrey and figure out why he can not bring his best stuff every start. Pelfrey has a 4-7 record with a 4.92 ERA. Pelfrey needs a great start tonight to keep the Mets momentum up.

Ted Lilly will oppose Pelfrey as he looks to snap a three game losing streak. Lilly is similar to Pelfrey as both pitchers are very inconsistent. Lilly has struggled over his last three starts giving up 17 earned runs. The Dodgers are hoping that Lilly can give them at least six innings because he hasn’t done that in his last four starts. Not going at least six innings really effects your bullpen the next day and it puts pressure on the next starter to go longer in the game.

The Mets have an excellent opportunity to get another win tonight as they try to capture their third straight win. The Mets offense has to come out and give Pelfrey at least four early runs to give him a lead to work with.
