The New York Mets will play the Florida Marlins tonight at Sun Life Stadium. This will start a three game series which will end on Sunday. The Mets are coming off a series win against the St. Louis Cardinals and are trying to get a series win against the Marlins. The Mets will welcome back David Wright after he missed a ton of time with his back injuries. Wright last played May 15th against the Houston Astros in which he went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts and a walk. This is a huge bat for the Mets to get back and if he can hit a bunch of homeruns, the Mets will be on their way to a storybook ending.
Mike Pelfrey will get the start for the Mets looking to get out of a two game losing streak. He continues to be very inconsistent for the Mets. His pitching has struggled all season after he started to show signs of being a dominant pitcher. Pelfrey has to keep the ball down tonight and show that he can give the Mets great pitching. He hasn’t lived up to the ace of this team at all and maybe it was to much on him. Pelfrey has a 5-9 record and an ERA of 4.67 with a complete game. The Mets are looking for a good start from him tonight as they go up against their division rivals.
The Marlins will send Chris Volstad to the mound tonight. Volstad is like Mike Pelfrey in that he is inconsistent as well. Both pitchers have a terrible record and a high ERA. Volstad has struggled lately and his problem is the homerun. He has given up 16 homeruns in 19 starts this season, That is not a good thing if your trying to get to the playoffs. The Marlins have to be concerned with his problems from the mound. He will have to try to keep the Mets off the board as they come in with a new attitude.
