Pre-Game: Mets vs. Nationals 1:35 PM

The New York Mets will look to start a new streak today as they face the Washington Nationals. The Mets lost for the first time in their last five games as they lost 3-0. The only runs came on a Jason Werth three-run homerun to start the game in the first inning. After that pitching took over and no one was able to score from there.

This afternoon Jon Niese will get the start for the Mets looking to improve on his season. Niese comes into the day with a 10-8 record and a 3.97 ERA. He is pitching really good this season and he has had success on the road. He has a 6-3 record with a 4.75 ERA which is very high, but in his starts on the road the Mets have been able to score for him. Niese needs to provide a winning touch today for the Mets if they want to get a series win.

Jordan Zimmermann will start for the Nationals looking to get his seventh win of the season. Zimmermann has really struggled over his last two starts in which he has given up 12 runs over that span. His struggles haven’t been the entire season, but his last two starts really have him rattled. The Mets have to swing the bat against him simply because he doesn’t strike out many guys. The Mets have to hit Zimmermann tonight if they want to win this series.
