Subway Series starts tonight at Citi Field with the Yankees and Mets facing off. The Mets are coming off a very successful road trip in which they won two key series. They went 4-2 by beating two first place teams the Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers. This was a very great road series offensively for the Mets as they scored a total of 55 runs. This series against the Yankees is very important because they are facing beatable pitchers. Also the Mets can use their speed and hitting ability to generate runs. If the Mets win this series they can actually be considered a team to make the playoffs.
The Mets will send Jon Niese to the mound as he looks to get his second straight win. Niese left his last start with rapid heartbeat. He was held to 5.2 innings pitched allowing two runs on six hits. He pitched a great game and allowed the Mets offense to deliver for him. He was very good in striking out seven Texas hitters and dominated the strike zone. The Mets have received great pitching from Niese this season and he remains consistent for them.
Ivan Nova will start for the Yankees looking to get his eighth win of the season. He is very inconsistent for the Yankees, but when he is dealing he is very tough to beat. The Yankees are hoping that they get the Nova that dominates hitters with his excellent pitches. Nova will need to pitch excellent if he is going to win because runs are hard to come by at Citi Field.
