The New York Mets faced the Atlanta Braves today at Citi Field. The Mets were able to use their homerun power yesterday to get a win. They clubbed four homeruns for the first time this season at Citi Field.
Breaking News: Jose Reyes left today’s game in the second inning with a stiff left hamstring. This is the same injury that Reyes suffered in July, resulting with him going on the disabled list. Also, Daniel Murphy left today’s game after getting spiked on a bad slide by Jose Constanza on the left knee.
The Mets scored in the second inning on a Dillon Gee RBI single which tied the game. Then Willie Harris followed him by singling to center to plate a run. The Mets offense took over early, but Gee allowed the Braves to tact on four runs to tact on five runs after they tied the game in the fourth inning. The Mets would bring home two runs on a Daniel Murphy infield single and a Willie Harris RBI single. And in the seventh inning Angel Pagan plated a run with his RBI double to score Jason Bay. The Mets would score five runs in this game and couldn’t get the win.
Dillon Gee started for the Mets trying to keep the Mets on the right track. Gee struggled from the start of the game as he only went five innings. He threw 101 pitches through those innings walking three batters. He gave up five runs on six hits with three homeruns. This terrible performance could go back to being out the last nine days. Gee last pitched on Friday of last week against the Marlins. He really gave the Mets no chance to win this game with his terrible pitching.
Mike Minor pitched for the Braves trying to get his team a win. Minor pitched well in his return to the Braves rotation. He went 5.2 innings allowing four runs on seven hits. He did strike out five batters and walked two batters. The Braves gave him a 5-2 lead, but he allowed two more runs to score after he exited the game.
Bobby Parnell worked two innings allowing two hits on a run. He also had two strikeouts and a walk during those innings. He would suffer the lost after giving up the tying run on a Chipper Jones RBI single.
The Mets were unable to rally in the ninth inning pinning them with another lost and bring their record to 56-57.
