Brewers blow past Mets 6-1

Citi Field

After a 2 hour 46 minute rain delay the Mets and Brewers started their three game series. The Mets were looking to get a win after their series win against the San Diego Padres. The Mets were trying to get back within two games of .500 for the season. The Mets received promising news on Jose Reyes who started running for the first time since his injury. Read more here

The Mets offense was able to scratch across a run on a Josh Thole RBI single in the the seventh inning. The offense was at a minimum for the Mets tonight as they struggled against a tough Brewers pitching staff. The Mets struggled yet again offensively and were unable to give their pitchers any help against a tough team.

The Mets started Mike Pelfrey hoping that he could give them a great effort. Pelfrey really struggled in the fifth inning as he allowed three runs to score on three hits. Pelfrey lasted just five innings allowing four innings (three runs earned) on eight hits. He really labored through his entire outing and his team was unable to get any runs for him. He struggled with walks as he walked four batters (two intentional). He really gave the Mets little hope of getting a win tonight as he struggled to get through his outing.

Shaun Marcum pitched for the Brewers hoping to get his first decision in his last three starts. Marcum pitched a very good game as he went seven innings allowing one run on six hits. He really dominated the Mets as he was able to get outs. He did throw 107 pitches, but was able to avoid walks and giving up a lot of hits. He has really proved his worth in the Brewers rotation because of his great pitching.

D.J. Carrasco gave up a run in the sixth inning on a RBI single to Casey McGehee. This marked the 17th game out of 21 games the Met bullpen has allowed a run. Carrasco would give up another run to extend the Brewers lead to 6-0. Tim Byrdak came in to pitch the eighth inning and really looked great. He had a clean inning of work, but would get into a face to face confrontation with Prince Fielder. The benches and bullpens would clear, but no punches were thrown. This game was long and saw little action the Mets end of the spectrum. The Mets would go on to lose this game 6-1.
