The New York Mets played the Atlanta Braves tonight at Citi Field. The Mets before the game announced that Saturday and Sunday’s games were going to be postponed until September due to Hurricane Irene. The Mets were coming off a win against the Phillies in their last contest Wednesday afternoon.
Tonight the Mets were able to score two runs in the fifth inning to go up 2-0. The Mets scored both runs on two singles, one by Nick Evans and the other by Josh Thole. Justin Turner was able to break the game open with his two-run double. The Mets were able to jump open to a 4-0 lead. The Mets would tact on two more runs on a Lucas Duda two-run double to push their lead to 6-0 in the 8th inning. The Mets offense scored all of their runs after the fifth inning tonight. This team looked much better tonight after their struggles all month.
Chris Capuano took those four runs very personal tonight. He wasn’t going to allow the Braves to take him out of this game tonight. Capuano went nine innings allowing just two hits. He really dominated tonight and earned his fourth complete game of his career the first since 2006. He really had his strikeouts up tonight as he struck out 13 batters to tie a career high. The Mets really have to be happy that Capuano was able to go all nine tonight and give the team a win. His pitching performance was possibly the best Met pitching performance of the season.
Tim Hudson pitched for the Braves looking to continue his great pitching. He would go 6.1 innings allowing four runs on eleven hits. He really struggled tonight in getting batters out. Despite giving up the four runs Hudson really fought through his start tonight. The Mets were able to get hit after hit tonight and do it against a very good pitcher.
Game Notes:
- Angel Pagan went 3 for 5 with a double and a run scored.
- Ruben Tejada went 3 for 5 with a double and a run scored.
- Lucas Duda went 3 for 4 with double and two RBI’s.
