Marlins beat Mets 7-3

The New York Mets opened up a series against the Florida Marlins at Citi Field. The Mets were looking to get back on track with a win tonight. Their offense has struggled over the last two games as they have been held to just two runs over that span. And those two runs came by Scott Hairston when he hit his two homeruns yesterday afternoon.

Tonight wasn’t any different for the Mets as they were held off the board until Jason Bay hit a solo homerun in the fourth inning bringing the Mets within two runs. The Mets trailed 3-1 at that point and struggled from that point on. The Mets had their big bats coming up in the ninth inning. Wright, Pagan, and Bay all came up trying to get the Mets the lead. The Mets would tie the game on a Lucas Duda two-run homer.

Mike Pelfrey started for the Mets trying to give them a nice start. Pelfrey pitched a very quality start for the Mets. He didn’t get the win, but he kept the Mets in the game. Pelfrey threw six innings allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits. He really gave the Mets the opportunity to get a comeback and they would in the ninth inning.

Javier Vazquez started for the Marlins looking to give them an outstanding start. He was able to get ahead of the Met hitters the entire night and forced them to wing at a bunch of pitches. Vazquez went seven innings allowing one run on six hits. The only run he gave up came on a Jason Bay homerun. He pitched a very great game and was able to get seven straight outs to end his night. He pitched with outstanding control as he only walked one batter and threw just 102 pitches.

The Mets bought Jason Isringhausen in to pitch the tenth inning trying to keep it tied for his team. He would have a tough inning as he would allow the bases to get loaded on three hits. Daniel Murphy would miss the tag on runner that came back to haunt the Mets. Izzy would give up a grand slam to give the Marlins a 7-3 lead. The Mets were unable to get anymore runs thus pinning them with the lost.
