Marlins shutout Mets 6-0

The Mets took on the Marlins in their third game in two days. The Mets were coming off back-to-back wins against the Marlins and were looking to continue their great performances. The Mets starting pitching has been phenomenal during their four game winning streak. Each starter has gone at least six innings with just four earned runs combined over that stretch. Capuano had a great performance with his complete game two-hit shutout. The Mets have to be happy that the entire pitching rotation during this stretch after they struggled for the entire month.

Mike Pelfrey started for the Mets looking to get his second consecutive win. He would go six innings allowing six hits on four runs. All of his runs came in the seventh inning after he came out of the game. The Mets were getting a great pitching performance from Pelfrey, but Terry Collins may have waited to late to take him out of the game. But overall the Mets lost simply because pitching struggled late in this game. Pelfrey has to take the positives out of this game in that he pitched really well despite losing the game. He tired out late in the game resulting in four walks. He needs to become consistent if he wants to become a winner in this league.

Javier Vazquez pitched for the Marlins and he would pitch very well great game. Vazquez would go seven innings allowing just three hits with six strikeouts. Vazquez possibly pitched his best game of the season as he allowed just three hits. He really dominated the Mets as he was able to change speeds and keep the Mets hitters off balance. He really locked the Mets and at one point in this game retired 13 straight batters. He really showed why he could still pitch in this league and dominate hitters.

The Mets offense really struggled in this game as they were held scoreless and lost the game 6-0. This was the seventh shutout lost by the Mets this season. They did have a opportunity to get within a run in the 8th inning, but Lucas Duda struck out with the bases loaded to end the inning. The Mets were only able to get six hits off the Marlins pitching tonight and never really posed a threat.
