The New York Mets were looking to avoid a series sweep as they faced the Milwaukee Brewers today at Citi Field. The Mets were trying to avoid falling six games under .500 for the season.
The Mets offense was held in check for the first six innings as Gallardo held the Mets to just three hits through those innings. The Mets would start the 7th inning with a David Wright single. And then Lucas Duda followed Wright with a two-run homerun his sixth of the year. The Mets tied the game at two runs a piece and were looking for more. Jason Bay would double after the Duda homerun and would be stranded their to end the inning. The Mets wouldn’t score any more runs as they would go on to lose.
R.A. Dickey would pitch in this game for the Mets hoping that he could get his sixth win of the season. Dickey would go seven innings allowing two runs on six hits. He really pitched very well for the Mets, but would still wind up with the no decision. He has been very unlucky all season long for the Mets as he can not get enough wins. Dickey has to stay strong and know that these tough losses and no decisions will turn into wins.
Yovani Gallardo started for the Brewers hoping to get his 14th win of the season. Gallardo was pitching strong up until the 7th inning where he allowed the Mets to score two runs on a two-run homerun by Lucas Duda. He went seven innings allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts. He really dominated the Mets early on in the game, but allowed the Mets to score two runs off him. His team would take a two run lead in the 8th inning and he would be in line to get his 14th win.
The Mets bullpen was awful again tonight as they allowed the Brewers to pick up two runs in 8th inning. Manny Acosta started the 8th, but walked a batter and gave up a hit. He would be replaced by Jason Isringhausen who would get the double play ball, but Justin Turner threw the ball wide and Ruben Tejada was unable to grab it. A run would score and the Brewers would go on to get another run, all charged to Manny Acosta and he would be in line for the lost.
The 9th inning was another bullpen disaster as the Mets bullpen allowed the Brewers to score two more runs. And the Mets would go on to lose another game 6-2.
